Sustainability

We want our business to be as green as possible to enhance our environment and not damage or detract from it. 

Eco-friendly products

To that end we use eco-friendly products such as washing up liquid, hand soap and cleaning materials from companies including Ecover and Bio-D sourced from Big Green Smile and Ethical Superstore. 

Waste water treatment

Our waste water is treated on site using a small sewage treatment plant and the effluent tested once per year to ensure it is clean enough to discharge. 

Environmental enhancement

We have undertaken a programme of hedge-laying, hedge and tree-planting and we aim to manage our farmland in a non-intensive way without the use of chemicals wherever possible. So far this has resulted in an increase in activity of birds such as barn owls and kestrels, indicating that there has been an increase in small rodent populations for their prey.  

Electric vehicles

We run a hybrid electric vehicle ourselves, however we are currently unable to offer electric vehicle charging for guests at Blackdown Yurts due to the limitations of our power supply. We are fairly off-grid at the yurts although there is power at the barn this is not appropriate for electric vehicle charging so please do not attempt to plug your vehicle in as you may cause a fire. The nearest EV charging facilities are at the M5 services in Cullompton.
