Keeping Warm...

All of our yurts have their own Windy Smithy log burner to keep you nice and toasty in the evening.

We provide firewood and everything you need to get a fire going. Information on how to light your wood-burner is provided in the yurt or on the Touchstay app (a link for which will be sent in your pre-arrival email after booking). We have also created an instructional video on how to set and operate your wood burner. View it below.

Each wood-burner has a fireguard around it as standard. Please do not hang any items on the fireguard to dry, instead use the separate drying rack or the clothes pegs near the door and keep the drying rack at least 2m from the wood burner for safety.

Outside each yurt is a fire pit to keep you outside well into the evening enjoying the fresh air and starry nights sky. The Barn also has a large log burner for cosying up around.

Please use kindling and wood sparingly - you do not need a huge fire to keep warm. Although we provide logs free of charge we do buy them in and although wood is a sustainable fuel it does come from trees so we'd rather minimise its use as much as possible. Please consider the environment whilst enjoying yourselves around the fire.

Please note candles are no longer permitted at Blackdown Yurts due to changes to Fire Regulations. Instead we provide battery operated fairy lights and lanterns. Please let us know if you need the batteries replacing. We use rechargeable to reduce the impact on the environment so please don't throw them away.

In each yurt you have a carbon monoxide alarm (please let us know if it bleeps to say its batteries need replacing), a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket. Our insurers require the presence of extinguishers but please note we are not allowed to ask you to put the fire out. Instead follow the instructions on the fire notice at right and found inside the door of your yurt.

A manual fire bell to raise the alarm is located on the side of your camp kitchen. Please only use this in an emergency. As well as ringing this and shouting FIRE to alert others on site, please call the fire service and alert Katie and Mark.

Muster in the car park or another safe point. Katie and Mark may be found at the farmhouse through the gate and down the track past the barn or call them on the number given on the fire notice. .

"Love this place. New shower block is fabulous - very Scandi sauna chic. The barn provides everything you need if the weather is less than ideal. Plenty of firewood and warm, cosy yurts keep you comfy. The field is great for the kids to play and explore safely. Good value and Mark and Katie just let you get on with things but they are there if you need them. Blackdown Yurts is a firm family favourite - quiet, magic little place and cannot wait to return."
